Days 99-100: Willow Movie Poster

11 Apr

I don’t know if any of you remember the 1988 movie Willow starring Warwick Davis and Val Kilmer. As a kid who loved (loves) 80’s fantasy films, I really liked it. In case you don’t remember, it’s basically like Harry Potter, only Voldemort is an evil queen called Bavmorda, Harry Potter is a little baby girl called Elora Danan, and instead of a lightning bolt scar, the baby has a birthmark on her arm. The queen hears of a prophecy about the birth of the one who will cause the queen’s downfall. So what the queen does, she tries to kill the baby so that she doesn’t grow up to bring about her demise. Only in doing so, she sets into motion a series of events that will eventually kill her. That’s where the similarities to HP end though, because it’s essentially the story of the baby’s guardian Willow Ufgood and his quest to protect the baby, but I don’t really want to get into too much detail. That’s what IMDB is for. So anyway, I joined a Tribute to Willow poster contest. Today was the deadline. Here’s what I made.

...

Erm, it’s alright I guess. I’m not all that ecstatic about it, especially since I only spent a couple hours making this today, instead of doing it over the weekend like I had originally planned. I couldn’t even really concentrate on this task. And you know why I was so distracted? BECAUSE I WAS AT THE ADVANCED SCREENING OF THE 2-PART SEASON OPENER OF DOCTOR WHO TODAY AND THE CAST AND CREW WERE THERE AND I THINK I WILL LEAVE IT TO MARTIN FREEMAN TO EXPRESS HOW I FEEL.

John Watson understands me.

Also, I spent the weekend marathoning last season’s episodes in preparation for today’s screening. So I wasn’t really able to spend that much time on the Willow poster. Plus, all I wanted to do today was doodle Doctor Who but I had to do this first because that was the plan. And so tomorrow (and quite possibly a couple more days after that), that’s what I am going to do. I might as well declare this Doctor Who week.

I’m very sorry. I know only one other person who watches Doctor Who (hey, Dudu!) so I’m afraid most of you will not be able to relate. But I ain’t even bothered (Oh look at that! Obscure Doctor Who companion reference right there and nobody is gonna get it hahaha).

I don’t care! See you tomorrow for more Doctor Who flailing!
