2011 in review

31 Dec

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Syndey Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 33,000 times in 2011. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 12 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

BIRTHDAY HIATUS!

29 Sep

It’s my birthday! And I’m treating myself to one week of doing nothing productive on my free time. Because all free time will be official dancing time.

BEST. PRESENT. EVER.

See you in a few days!

Mini Break!

27 Jun

I am taking a day or two off because I haven’t been sleeping. Because I’ve been drawing the Starks everyday for the past 700 years, in this new ~realistic~ style that I’ve never done before and never thought I was capable of doing, and it takes me tons of hours to finish one drawing because I am a n00b, and I’ve been putting one drawing out almost everyday, when this level of task should be spread out over a couple of days at least, because it has been eating into slumber time, and I mean by the time I finish a single drawing the sun would be out and I then try to at least grab an hour or two of sleep before I go to work, and then I’d be at the office for 9 hours then I’d go home and start drawing and not finish til the sun comes out, and, and, and I just need to sleeeeeeeep.

(i didn't make this)

SHUT UP, JON SNOW. THIS IS MY BLOG AND I DO WHAT I WANT.

Due to intense heartbreak, the Epic Year Project will be closed for a few days until I recover. Somehow.

See you on the other side.

Days 150-156: Guitar Practice

5 Jun

I am about to make a bunch of excuses so please bear with me.

I just wanted to say that I haven’t given up on this blog. It’s just that there’s this One Task that I’ve been trying to do. It was a special request. And quite a difficult one I might add.

Okay let me start over. Remember how my last task was the one where I built beds with my own hands? Yeah well the following day, I had all these bruises down my right arm because apparently, I had been flailing my arm a lot and slamming it against random solid objects (I do not remember doing this but this is the only explanation I could think of to explain the goddamned bruises) and it hurt really bad and I couldn’t even grip a pencil properly. So I figured, it’s probably a good idea to not draw for a while until my right arm healed.

And I just happened to have this special request from a friend just standing by for a couple of months now. The request was to play their favorite song on the guitar for my next video. And I haven’t done a video in a while so I thought it was high time to do another one. Plus, when I play guitar, it’s my left hand that does all the complicated bits with the chords and the right one just does the easy bits with the strumming, so this was a perfect way to give it a rest.

Only, like I said, the song is a really difficult one. I’ve been practicing for an average of two hours a day this entire week. Okay so there was a day when I didn’t practice at all but there were days (like today and yesterday) where I practiced for like 4 hours straight a day so it all balances out. I don’t know. Seemed like a good idea at the time.

But you see what happened was, because of all that sudden practicing after months of not even looking at my guitar (and even when I was playing before, I only did easy songs because I’m a lazy individual who does not wish to challenge herself at all), my left hand is now fucked up. The nerve endings have formed a union and started some sort of strike.  So although I have the song memorized, my left hand has basically given up doing what my brain wants it to. Plus it really really hurts. Also, I think there might be a pus related situation going on with my index finger. It ain’t pretty. So I might have to rest my hand now until it gets better before I do the video. Maybe a few days. A week, tops.

The upside though, is that my right hand is all better and I can go back to drawing again.

=________=

That is all. See you tomorrow. 😦

blargh

i’ve been sick. please come back tomorrow. 😦

ANNOUNCEMENT

29 Mar

NIÑA IS IN THE MIDDLE OF A TASK THAT IS TAKING TOO LONG TO FINISH.

IT IS A RELATIVELY SIMPLE TASK BUT UNDERNEATH ITS BORING EXTERIOR LURKS AN EVILNESS THAT HAS MADE HER COMPUTER CRASH MULTIPLE TIMES, HAS TAKEN AWAY PRECIOUS HOURS SHE COULD HAVE USED FOR SLEEPING, AND HAS CAUSED HER TO SPEAK IN THE THIRD PERSON.

PLEASE COME BACK IN A COUPLE OF DAYS. SURELY SHE WILL BE DONE BY THEN. I MEAN, SURELY.

Day 6: Practice Photography

6 Jan

I’ve never been a tourist in this city. I haven’t been to the Statue of Liberty or Ellis Island. I’ve never tried setting aside some time to look around and just take in how beautiful the place is. Which is a shame really because New York City has some pretty impressive architecture. When you see someone in the street holding a camera, more often than not, they have it pointed up at the buildings.

I suppose one reason I don’t take pictures is that I don’t have one of those fancy DSLR things that everyone and their mother has nowadays. A better, more honest reason though is that I am absolute rubbish at it. So I figured that this year, maybe I should learn how to take photos. I may not have your space age Nikons or Canons but what I do have is a can-do attitude and what they call a “digital camera.” So at lunch today, I took a walk, found myself in the vicinity of the Empire State Building, and decided to try and practice photography.

Don't worry. That's not King Kong. King Kong is, in fact, dead. That's just a regular gorilla.

I took around twenty photos of the building, just trying to get the composition right and I think this was the best one. It turned out alright, don’t you think? Not bad for a noob, if I must say so myself.

See you tomorrow!

Day 5: Make Fake Neon Lights Out of Scratch on Photoshop

5 Jan

At work I had to redesign a famous fashion designer’s logo. I don’t know if it’s ethical to divulge information on clients so I won’t say who the designer is (but a;ksdjfhlkas I love her she is fun and i own frilly skirts because of her). They were playing around with the idea of using neon lights for the redesigned logo. So I had to learn how to do that without having to actually purchase some neon lights. So here, let me show you what I’ve done.

click here to behold the full extent of my mad photoshop skillzzz.

Incidentally, if you listen to the song “Outsiders” by Franz Ferdinand while viewing my animated masterpiece of a gif, it would seem as if they were made for each other. Do not fret, however, and rid your mind of fanciful conspiracy theories. This is purely coincidental.

Now I can sleep well knowing that maybe someday, this newly learned and seemingly useless skill could save my life.

And because I finished early today, I shall reward myself with a couple of episodes of Torchwood.

See you tomorrow!

Day 3: Rhyme Time

3 Jan

I started my internship today. It was tiring. Also, we’re in the middle of moving into another apartment. So after work, I did that. No free time at all for me to even check my email. Much less, watch tv. Much much less less, do something productive. The tiredness is making my grammar like this. Blaaaargh. But I somehow managed to put together the beginnings of a story that I’m thinking of calling “Last Summer.” Here it is!

A long time ago, there once lived a young orphan
who dreamed about space exploration.
“Since I don’t have anyone left in this world,
I’ll live in an off-planet station!”

This boy’s name was Neil and he was really smart.
He got into space school for free.
He studied and trained hard and after twelve years,
acquired his spaceman degree.

He was quite ecstatic about his achievement
‘Cause soon he’ll be reaching the stars.
Imagine his joy when they told him that he
got picked for a mission to mars.

The crew would spend five years out on the red planet
for research and science-y stuff
to see if that world would be safe to inhabit.
“This mission will surely be tough!”

“We leave on the first day of autumn,” said Captain
“so y’all should just go home and chill.
And seeing as spring is just ending right now,
you have a whole summer to kill.”

The rest of the crew went back home to their families
but Neil didn’t know what to do.
‘Cause clearly, an orphan with no friends at all
had no one to come back home to.

That’s all I have so far. I’m so tired. Bleaeaeargh. See you tomorrow?
