2011 in review

31 Dec

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Syndey Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 33,000 times in 2011. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 12 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Day 365: A Review

31 Dec

I know I haven’t been posting a lot the past couple of months, but be assured that I’ve been drawing every single day. I’ve been doing sort of a commission (it’s really not that, but that’s what I’ll call it anyway). I’ve been drawing original characters for one writer’s story about some British soldiers in Afghanistan. It’s an exciting universe and I’ve been playing in it these past months and this is seriously the most fun I’ve had this year. I just didn’t think that it’s something that people would be interested in seeing everyday, just these character sketches and progress drawings of people nobody knows so I’ve decided to just post some of my sketches here today, on the very last day of the year, just to prove that I haven’t been idle.

And then I also made these which will be going up in the shop due to popular demand.

So you see, I have been very, very busy, and haven’t stopped making stuff everyday at all.

I would now like to end this post, and this year, with a progress report.

I didn’t set out in this project to become better at drawing. I just wanted to not be bored, and not watch TV all of the time. But that’s what happened and I’m really pleased about it.

“May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you’re wonderful, and don’t forget to make some art — write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself.”

This Neil Gaiman quote was the impetus for this project. I’ve accomplished all items, except one, on this checklist and I’d say that’s good enough. I accomplished all the very important ones anyway. I wrote, I drew, I built, I sang. And I absolutely surprised myself.

Thanks for staying with me through this crazy ride. I couldn’t have done it without you.

The Epic Year Project is done. Hurrah!

Now I can get the proper amount of sleep, like everybody else.

After I finish this drawing.

Day 335: A Christmas Song

1 Dec

Okay, this is not really a Christmas song but it’s about people wishing for things that they want, and around this time of the year, during this super commercialized holiday season, it could practically be an anthem.

I did this really quickly today. I didn’t do multiple takes. I didn’t play all of the instruments that I own. I didn’t even brush my hair. I just wanted to make this for you as an early Christmas present, and because it is very relevant to my my life as of late. So take it.

Thanks for watching and I will see you next time.
