Day 120: Merlin Fashion

30 Apr

Seeing as it is the weekend, I have been spending hours on Looklet once again. This time, recreating the outfits of the two main characters in the BBC series that started my unhealthy fondness for the BBC: MERLIN. We all know the story of wise, old wizard Merlin, but this series is different in that the characters are in their twenties and also there are a lot of cute boys.

Exhibit A

Exhibit B

Anyway, have some clothes. Here’s Merlin.

And here’s Arthur.

And there you have it. The hopeless puddle of uncool that is my life. See you tomorrow!

Day 119: Obligatory Royal Wedding Post

29 Apr

First, a note about the site. If you look at the sidebar, you will notice that I’ve added categories and tags. I wasn’t able to actually go through and tag each and every entry yet but I’m going to do that little by little throughout the next few days because although this task helps to organize my posts, it is also incredibly tedious.

On to the actual post!

I was planning on making a Royal Portrait of the newlyweds for my Obligatory Royal Wedding Post. It was a very good plan. I had preliminary sketches too. I was just waiting to see what Kate’s dress was going to look like. But then of course, I got completely sidetracked because Princess Beatrice happened.

And she was wearing this glorious masterpiece of a hat. I think I'm going to call it The Fallopian Hat. She stole the show completely. For me, at least. And her sister's hat wasn't too shabby either.

And dear oh dear I think I spent four hours trying to capture the essence of this ridiculous hat, which in society’s standards is probably considered Way Too Much Time. I don’t know. It was speaking to me. It was saying “draw me like one of your french girls.”

Look at my life. Look at my choices.

See you when I’ve made something that isn’t as pointless as this post.

But look it’s funny because: her hat.

Day 118: Site Things

28 Apr

gpoy: Revising Furiously edition

Tonight shall be spent fixing things on this site. I only just now realized, one-third of the way through the year, the importance of tagging my posts. So I plan on going through each and every goddamned post to tag and categorize them like a proper blogger. No big deal.

Please look forward to my Royal Wedding post tomorrow!

Day 117: Drawing Night: April Edition

27 Apr

It was Drawing Night: April Edition at the office tonight! (This was March, this was February.)

Erm, yeah. Drawings!

That’s it!

See you tomorrow!

Day 116: Springtime Photography

26 Apr

It’s been quite a while since I last actively set out to practice photography. It’s been exactly a hundred days, in fact. And when you take as much time as that between practice sessions, I don’t think you really improve. So do not expect gah!amazing photos today. But it was the first really hot day of the year and the flowers are blooming and it was really nice out so there were a lot of pretty things to look at. My subject for today was this tree in front of Grace Church, a gorgeous piece of architecture that’s been around since the 1800’s that I like to pass by on my daily walk to the office. There was a crowd of people around this tree, all taking pictures as well. See, the change from winter to spring is quite abrupt. One day a tree is absolutely devoid of foliage, then the next day it’s completely covered in flowers. So when this tree in front of this church did the whole drab-to-fab overnight change thing, people everywhere were inspired to practice photography.

i mean, look at the pretty flowers! they weren't there yesterday! this was around sunset though so it was getting dark.

And here’s a close-up shot of the petals.

With a bonus photobomber!

Which makes perfect sense, actually. It isn’t really springtime until the fairies come out to play.

So yay! Photography!

That’s all! See you tomorrow!

Days 114-115: EGGS!

25 Apr

I would like to tell you that I combined the following two tasks because they were related. But mostly it was because I’m really lazy.

Task 1: Easter Eggs

It was Easter Sunday yesterday and although we didn’t do anything special here at the apartment, I still wanted to paint some eggs.

Here they are post-hardboiling.

At first I was going to use my paints to do the job because I didn’t have food dye, but then I realized that it probably was not such a good idea to apply actual paint to any sort of foodstuff that you plan on eating afterwards. Because eating paint makes you crazy. It’s true. Ask Vincent Van Gogh. Oh no wait. You can’t. BECAUSE HE’S DEAD. Because he killed himself because he was crazy because he ate paint. My logic is solid and infallible.

So I used the next best thing: colored pencils!

Okay there are probably a lot of things that are better to use than colored pencils. Such as the natural juices of fruits and vegetables or something. Or I could have just stepped out for two minutes to get food dye from the store. But could I be bothered to exert any effort at all to do this thing right? Apparently not. So colored pencils it is. Also, I wasn’t worried about the health hazards of colored pencils because it had this on the box.

Which is basically express permission to ingest. "It is okay to eat this," says the label. Who am I to question its wisdom?

So then I got to drawing. And because I am a huge nerd, all the eggs were transformed into robots/other forms of advanced technology from my favorite science-fiction tv series, movie trilogy, and book.

Marvin, the paranoid android!

And here they all are, mingling in a bowl in what could possibly be the most epic fandom crossover in the history of easter eggs having their pictures taken while mingling in a bowl!

End of task 1.

Task 2: Egg Salad Sandwich

Because it is only logical to eat eggs after you’ve drawn them to look like robots/androids/time and space machines.

Ingredients! Eggs (eggshell decoration not necessary), Mayonnaise (I'm using Kewpie because it is awesome, obviously), salt, pepper, red pepper flake (optional), and herbs (it is customary to use dill but you can use whatever the hell you want).

Step 1: Liberate the eggs from (the TARDIS) their shells.

Step 2: Give them a quick chop so that it's easier to combine them with the other things later.

Step 3: Squeeze some mayo onto the eggs. How much mayo depends on you because you are a free-thinking individual and you have a choice. Don't let other people tell you otherwise.

Step 4: Add in all the other things.

Step 5: Mix everything together.

Step 6: Spread the awesome onto some bread. But make sure to lay down a paper towel first so that when you've assembled your sandwich, you can simply wrap it up in the paper towel, put it in a sandwich bag, and take it to the office in the morning. Efficiency is important, folks.

Or you could simply marvel at how the light hits this sexy bastard, making it look like a gift sent from the heavens. And then get goosebumps as you hear a league of angels in the background performing Handel's Messiah, before you gobble it up.

Tomorrow, we will find out if colored pencils are indeed nontoxic, as the box so confidently claims. Exciting stuff!

See you tomorrow! Or not!

Days 111-113: All My Love to the Wardrobe Department of SHERLOCK

24 Apr

Someday, I will get bored with this website. Maybe when I run out of TV shows to get inspired by. But apparently, this is how I spend my weekends now. Is it absolutely terrible that I waste entire days browsing through thousands of articles of clothing trying to match the outfits of fictional characters from television shows? Yes. Do I care? Not really, no.

Okay then. The past three nights have been spent recreating the outfits from BBC’s Sherlock, the most brilliant adaptation of the Arthur Conan Doyle classic. The design in that show is impeccable. The sets are amazing, the prop selection is very intelligent. But the fashion, you guys. The outfits are so fantastically well-thought of and present, that they are almost characters in their own right, separate entities from the people wearing them. The characters in the show are so aware of how fantastic they look that they feel the need to point out their designer clothing, even at freaking gunpoint!

Dissertations have been written about this! People have created fiction based on the relationship between John’s sweaters (or jumpers, as I like to call them now) and Sherlock’s iconic blue scarf. A song has been written about Sherlock’s purple shirt of sex, and it is beautiful. People have never been this obsessed with the wardrobe department of any television show in history! (Look at me trying to justify the unreasonable amount of time I spent on this task hahahaha)

Enough talk. Here come the clothes.

Part 1: Sherlock

Three of Sherlocks's most recognizable outfits: The Swishy Coat, The Purple Shirt of Sex, and his pyjamas.

Look #1: The Game is On!

Look #2: Highly Functioning!

Look #3: Bored!

Part 2: John

A selection of John's outfits from each of the three episodes of the series.

Look #1: A Study in Pink

Look #2: The Blind Banker

Look #3: The Great Game

Part 3: Sexy Men in their Suits

The three dashing men in the lives of Sherlock and John: Jim Moriarty, Mycroft Holmes, and Detective Inspector Lestrade.

Look #1: Moriarty

Look #2: Mycroft

Look #3: Lestrade

And there you have it. The entire wardrobe of the TV show Sherlock.

Also, I am a loser and my life is a joke. But we already knew that.

Like/Reblog this on tumblr!

See you later for some Easter things!

Days 109-110: Missed Birthdays

23 Apr

While I was sick this week, I missed a couple of friends’ birthdays. As it is getting customary here at the Epic Year Project for me to draw people on their birthdays, here are some portraits. I tried mixing up the styles just so things won’t get boring. Strangely, it seems that it’s become easier for me to draw now, just because I’m forced to do it almost everyday. Result! Another strange thing is that apparently, a lot of the people I love were born on April. Odd! Anyway. Drawings!

Here is the lovely Jo Anne Marie looking extremely happy indeed. Happy birthday, you!

And here is a comic book version of Nen, chillin' like a villain. Happy birthday, mother!

I love yous!

That is all!

20 Apr

i’ve been sick. please come back tomorrow. 😦

Days 107 & 108: Sexy Birthday People

18 Apr

So I had this drawing done yesterday but I promised that I wouldn’t post anything Doctor Who related. So I didn’t post anything at all hahaha. Today is the 18th and I decided that this was a more appropriate day to post this drawing because it is David Tennant’s birthday. He is a Scottish actor and he played the tenth version of the Doctor  and he is sexy and talented.

David Tennant: comic book edition.

It also happens to be the birthday of a very good friend of mine: AYISSE! Another sexy and talented individual. What is it with April 18th?!

Ayisse: I Forgot To Draw Clothes Edition

Happy birthday Ayisse (and David Tennant)! I love you (both)! ❤

Okay! That is all! Thanks for dropping by!
