2011 in review

31 Dec

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Syndey Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 33,000 times in 2011. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 12 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Day 365: A Review

31 Dec

I know I haven’t been posting a lot the past couple of months, but be assured that I’ve been drawing every single day. I’ve been doing sort of a commission (it’s really not that, but that’s what I’ll call it anyway). I’ve been drawing original characters for one writer’s story about some British soldiers in Afghanistan. It’s an exciting universe and I’ve been playing in it these past months and this is seriously the most fun I’ve had this year. I just didn’t think that it’s something that people would be interested in seeing everyday, just these character sketches and progress drawings of people nobody knows so I’ve decided to just post some of my sketches here today, on the very last day of the year, just to prove that I haven’t been idle.

And then I also made these which will be going up in the shop due to popular demand.

So you see, I have been very, very busy, and haven’t stopped making stuff everyday at all.

I would now like to end this post, and this year, with a progress report.

I didn’t set out in this project to become better at drawing. I just wanted to not be bored, and not watch TV all of the time. But that’s what happened and I’m really pleased about it.

“May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you’re wonderful, and don’t forget to make some art — write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself.”

This Neil Gaiman quote was the impetus for this project. I’ve accomplished all items, except one, on this checklist and I’d say that’s good enough. I accomplished all the very important ones anyway. I wrote, I drew, I built, I sang. And I absolutely surprised myself.

Thanks for staying with me through this crazy ride. I couldn’t have done it without you.

The Epic Year Project is done. Hurrah!

Now I can get the proper amount of sleep, like everybody else.

After I finish this drawing.

Day 335: A Christmas Song

1 Dec

Okay, this is not really a Christmas song but it’s about people wishing for things that they want, and around this time of the year, during this super commercialized holiday season, it could practically be an anthem.

I did this really quickly today. I didn’t do multiple takes. I didn’t play all of the instruments that I own. I didn’t even brush my hair. I just wanted to make this for you as an early Christmas present, and because it is very relevant to my my life as of late. So take it.

Thanks for watching and I will see you next time.

Days 317-318: THE MOTHERF*CKING FOO FIGHTERS

16 Nov

I don’t really have words for this. But I do have a painting that I made of what my face was doing the entire three hours it was happening, and probably for a few more hours after that (except for the moments when I was screaming).

...

Oh and you know what else I have? Videos. Here just watch them. You will understand how I feel.

This first one is the first 30 seconds of the concert. A very special moment.

This one you’ve probably seen on Facebook. So I promised myself I would only take videos of five songs max so I could spend the rest of the time actually enjoying the concert. The Pretender was one of them. My Hero was another. They played them one after the other. IT WAS AWESOME.

Another song on my 5 Videos list: Monkey Wrench. ALL TEN MINUTES OF IT.

Here is a video of Dave Grohl head-banging near where we were standing to the intro of Pink Floyd’s “In the Flesh?” Taylor Hawkins sang. *swoon*

This is song Number 4 on my list: Best of You. Acoustic!

This song isn’t on the list. It’s a special number with a super secret guest performer. Alright IT’S JOAN JETT. JOAN JETT, YOU GUYS. I CAN’T. I JUST CAN’T.

And the last song on my list, the last song of the night, and what is probably going to be the last song of all of their concerts until the end of time: Everlong. (Oh and I should probably explain that at the beginning of the video, people were booing because some idiot threw a demo CD at Dave Grohl and it almost cost us this song. He was pretty miffed.)

Other songs that I didn’t take a video of but should have: Arlandria (my favourite from the new record), Breakout (classic), and Cold Day in the Sun (Taylor Hawkins *swoon*)

And that’s that. All in all: fuckin’ majestic, man. Just. Yeah.

Days 305-306: Daryl BAMF Dixon

2 Nov

It is November and I’m back! For most of the month of October, I was playing host to Ayisse’s New York City Adventures and my one task for that month is delayed due to photo uploading circumstances (hint hint, Ayisse :p). I will upload it when it’s ready.

In the meantime, I thought it was a good idea to post some The Walking Dead art for the Day of the Dead. This feels like it’s going to be another drawing series, so I’m starting with my favourite character with whom I have fallen hopelessly in love. And who else from that show would strike my fancy other than the redneck stealth ninja zombie assassin Daryl Dixon with his sexy, sexy crossbow, played by the incredibly yummy Norman Reedus, who I met recently at Comic Con!

Here he is at the Walking Dead panel, trying to distract the adorable Chandler Riggs (who plays Carl) in the middle of answering a question. I can't even handle my emotions for Norman Reedus right now.

He is so gwapo. Ugh.

Anyway, here he is as Daryl Dixon, Sexy Bamf with a Crossbow.

That is all! See you next time!

BIRTHDAY HIATUS!

29 Sep

It’s my birthday! And I’m treating myself to one week of doing nothing productive on my free time. Because all free time will be official dancing time.

BEST. PRESENT. EVER.

See you in a few days!

Days 262-267: Glamlock

24 Sep

There’s a new craze going around in the Sherlock fandom and it is called Glamlock. For the uninitiated, Glamlock is an alternate universe in which Sherlock and John a.k.a. Johnny Lazers are musicians in a glam rock band called Sussex Vampires. And I drew fanart for it! Because I am a huge nerd and to me this is an activity worth losing sleep over. I don’t even regret anything.

Days 262-263: Johnny Lazers

Days 264-265: Glamlock Holmes

And this is what they look like side by side, if you reblog it over at my Tumblr.

The V in the middle is the band's official logo. Erm, yeah.

Days 266-267: Jim Glamiarty

And this is Jim from rival band Moriarty. (On Tumblr)

And that’s that. See you next time!

Day 261: Snooplock Holmes and John “Peanut” Watson

18 Sep

So I read a discussion on my tumblr dash this morning about how John’s nickname in Chinese is “peanut” and then I was immediately reminded of Peanuts because in my head apparently everything’s connected like the circle of life or some shit. And so this happened.

I regret nothing! See you next time!

Days 259-260: The God Complex

17 Sep

I just have a lot of feelings about Amy Pond and the Doctor alright?

See you next time. 😦

Day 257-258: Happy Birthday Maria

15 Sep

Hello to my new friend Maria! And happy birthday!

This may be a bit late in Leipzig time. But it’s still the 15th here in NY so technically, it’s still your birthday. I hope you had a good one! 😀
